What is the MPIC?

The MPIC, or Military and Police Interest Club, is an outlet for students who are interested in serving their country and/or their local communities. The MPIC wishes to instill a sense of service and patriotism towards the communities in which they live. Members come to discuss current events and "hot" topics about law enforcement and all branches of the United States military.

When does the MPIC meet?

The MPIC meets every two weeks, on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Meetings start five (5) minutes after eighth period is over.  On assembly schedule days, meetings start at 2:25 and last until approximately 3:05. On regular days, the meetings commence at 2:50 and end around 3:45. We meet in room 133. All meetings will be announced in the daily bulletin and/or in a memo distributed in homeroom. If members or possible members cannot attend a meeting, they are advised to seek the Admin Staff or the moderator sometime during the week of the meeting.

What do MPIC meetings entail?

MPIC meetings vary from week to week. Some meeting will be an open-forum where topics are raised and then discussed. Some meetings involve watching a video and then talking about it. Yet others will entail the members and staff to plan upcoming guest-speakers or an occasional party. Starting in 2002, some of the meetings will feature a guest speaker from a local law enforcement agency or a military establishment. If you are interested in appearing as a guest-speaker, please click "Guest-Speaker Sign-up" on the navigation bar and let us know about it! Once approved, we will send the appropriate details (our schedules are flexible!).

What is the MPIC "acceptable use" policy?

The MPIC "acceptable use" policy is simply a statement that says if an individual joins the club, they are to adhere to our regulations of respect and discipline. Basically, a member cannot describe or bring up topics of weapons for the sole purpose to discuss the item itself. In other words, weapons should not be a primary focal point of the club discussions. Also, when a guest-speaker has the floor, there are to be no interruptions whatsoever and by all means no disrespect by vulgar or slanderous language. Violations of these regulations shall not be tolerated and perpetrators may be asked to leave that certain meeting and/or (upon review of  school administration) be ejected from the club and disavowed from all member privileges.

What is the MPIC's policy on weapons?

The MPIC acknowledges that weapons are a part of the military and law enforcement communities; however, this club was not formed on the basis of firearms. Law enforcement and military personnel are trained and have appropriate respect and caution when handling munitions. Weapons will not be a topic discussed in any  meeting and will not be tolerated if brought up in the appearance of a guest-speaker. Violators are subject to ejection from the current meeting (at discretion of MPIC Admin staff) and/or asked to leave the club permanently (after school administration review). In light of the events of Columbine and September 11th, we wish to distance ourselves from irresponsible and/or aggressive people. Also, our policies are very tight because the MPIC not only represents each individual, but the school, military, and police communities as well.

I am willing to come and talk to the students as a guest-speaker. Where do I sign-up?

The MPIC is always looking for potential guest-speakers. However, a guest speaker must be an active or retired officer in any branch of the military or a officer/trooper for a law enforcement agency. If you are in the Baltimore/Washington area, please email us and let us know! Once we get you approved, we will get in touch with you about location and time, but you may provide us with three (3) days that would best fit your schedule.
